Teetotal party games

Top 10 Teetotal Party Games

Looking for the best teetotal party games? Well, you’re in the right place. There is truly an alternative version for everything and Bex has just what you need for a fun night in or out with your friends.

As I get older, I find myself being able to drink less and less alcohol before I start to feel sick – I swear, one glass of wine, and I’m already jolly! But how is this relevant to drinking games and the culture surrounding them?

It’s somehow been normalized to engage in games like beer pong, cards, or ‘never have I ever’ until you can’t see straight and barely stand. They often put someone else in charge of how much and how fast you drink, a mild power trip if you will, which can lead to some very unpleasant nights and an even more unpleasant hangover!

We have a great blog on peer pressure when drinking socially, which you can read here.

All is not lost, though! You don’t have to miss out on goofing around with your friends if you aren’t drinking, we’ve concocted a list of 10 alcohol-free alternatives to drinking games that will go down a storm at your next party! Better yet, you’ll actually be able to remember them in the morning!

Top 10 Teetotal Party Games

1. Charades

A classic. We all know this game, and we’ve probably played it on one Christmas or another. One player is given something to act out and the others have to guess. Spice it up by adding a timer, if the player guessing doesn’t get the answer before the time runs out then they must do a forfeit – for example, eat a spoonful of cold baked beans.

2. Truth or Dare Jenga

A fun twist on a popular party game! Simply put, every time you pull out a block, the player must choose between a truth or a dare, and face their friend’s antics. It’s a great way to loosen up your guests – no alcohol necessary!

3. Who Am I?

No, I’m not having an existential crisis. This is our next game. Players write a bunch of animals, names, celebrities on pieces of paper then blindly pick one and have another player stick it to their forehead (feel free to use post-it notes for this if it’s easier). Players then ask yes/no questions, trying to guess who they are.

4. Blind Drawing

This game is a true test of your artistry. The player drawing is blindfolded, and their partner is given something for them to draw. Sounds easy right? Wrong. The player who is not drawing is only allowed to describe the item without saying what it actually is. Let the horrific and hilarious drawings ensure – permission to roast your friends!

5. Two Truths and a Lie

This game allows your imagination to run wild and involves everyone in the group. Every person has to come up with 3 statements about themselves, two of them are true, and one of them is a lie. Everyone then says their 3 statements, and the group has to guess which one is the lie. It’s great fun and a good icebreaker if you’re socially inept like me!

6. Booze-less Beer Pong

This one requires a bit of space! You’ll need to clear off a coffee table or dining table. Plastic cups are arranged at each end of the table, and players on opposing teams must try to bounce a ping pong ball into the other team’s cup. Here’s the twist – whilst the cups are usually filled with alcohol to drink as a forfeit, our version has written forfeits inside the cup. You can be tame or as mean as you like with these!

7. Cards Against Humanity

This game works best for larger groups and is always great fun. It’s also a great game to find out how much of a dark sense of humour your friends really have!

8. Board games

These are great if you want a more relaxed vibe or if you feel the need to blow off some steam in a heated game of monopoly (Disclaimer: we are not responsible for any flipped tables or loss of friendship). At the YADA bar in Derby, we host regular board game nights. Take a look at our events page to find all the details of our next one.

9. Card Games

Let’s take Uno for example, this is a super fun game and one of my personal favourites. There is even an online Uno game for socially distanced gatherings! You can also venture into the world of German Snap or Cheat. Once again, the loser(s) must suffer a forfeit

10.  JackBox

If you have a PC or Games Console you can purchase JackBox which includes a whole range of party games and it’s another great option for a hilarious night in. All you’ll need is your console, a smartphone, friends, and an internet connection.

Whichever game you choose, just remember that you do not need alcohol to have fun!

A booze-free party plus these teetotal party games are really all you need this summer!
