Discover the Transformative Power of Community at YADA: A Look Back at Our 2022
YADA had a dynamic and fulfilling year in 2022. We started the year by launching YADA Communities, which are groups that come together around common causes and interests and meet at our bar. We have hosted a variety of communities, including a board game night, an LGBTQ+ group called Queers Without Beers, a worship community, a poetry group, and weekly well-being cafe sessions for people from Hong Kong. Our communities have been a source of joy and comfort for many of our attendees.
YADA Beat the Odds
In the Spring, we hosted the Bar on Green Lane’s 1st Birthday, a fantastic event that brought people from near and far to celebrate the change that’s happening! It’s been a true privilege to share the space with so many. A place that’s formed new friendships and that’s hosted many a celebration. A bar that’s become a place of belonging for so many.
Taking the YADA Bar Experience on the Road
Markets, Church Pop-Ups (Thanks St Werburghs and St Mathews), Dog Shows and more… In late Spring and into the Summer, we took the YADA experience on the road and attended several events in the Derbyshire area and festivals, including New Wine United and Sixty One down in Peterborough. We were thrilled to see so many of our supporters come out and join us at these events, and we hope to continue attending festivals in the future.
Sunday Night Live
We also launched our Sunday Night Live events, which are monthly musical showcases in a relaxed and supportive atmosphere. These events have been a great platform for local talent to perform and have allowed us to create a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere at YADA. In December, we partnered with Restore Charity to host a Christmas roundup event, which was a wonderful way to celebrate the holiday season and give back to our community.
Challenges and Looking Ahead
While we have had some challenges this year, including staff changes and an unhelpful burglary, we have worked hard to rebuild our team of volunteers and are grateful for the support of our community as we navigate these challenges. We are committed to creating a welcoming and inclusive space at YADA and to reimagining the nightlife experience by removing the focus on alcohol. We believe that by fostering connection, conversation, and community, we can create a more meaningful and enjoyable experience for all.
We are constantly seeking new ways to innovate and improve our offerings at YADA, and we have several exciting plans for 2023. We hope to expand our community programming and add even more diverse and engaging events to our calendar. We also can’t wait to get out and about on the road again with HUGO, our horsebox (Mobile Bar). Our calendar is already booking up, but don’t worry there’s still plenty of space to bring the AF bar experience to your event.
A Huge Thank You!
We want to extend a heartfelt thank you to all of our regulars, donors, and supporters, whether you have visited us in person or supported us online through our store or social media. Your involvement is crucial to the success and growth of YADA, and we are grateful for your support. We look forward to continuing to serve you in 2023 and beyond and hope to see you at one of our upcoming events.
